China has lashed out at the United States following the dramatic capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores by U.S. forces. In a rare and forceful statement, Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered the immediate release of Maduro, condemning the operation as a “clear violation of international law” and labeling it dangerous “hegemonic behaviour.”
