In a remarkable display of humanity, farmers in Gotwan (Gotma) village, Mirzapur, saved a rare, giant eagle—locally known as a "Garuda"—after it collapsed mid-flight due to the extreme cold wave.
The Incident: On Friday morning, the nearly six-foot-long bird fell into agricultural fields in the Kachhwa area. Villagers found the majestic bird shivering and surrounded by stray dogs.
The Rescue: Local farmers Govind and Sherupal acted quickly, rescuing the bird from the dogs and taking it to their home. To battle the freezing temperatures, they wrapped the eagle in a blanket and provided warmth using a bonfire. Thanks to their timely compassion, the bird’s condition stabilized.
Official Action: The Forest Department was alerted via the 112 helpline and has since taken charge of the bird's recovery and care.
